“The part’s on nation-wide backorder. I’m not going to be able to get it in until... at least six days.”

Clearly, he has never tried to get parts for an italian car. Six weeks was faster than usual.

Try Tasca or fordpartsgiant. They usually have it when the dealer gives me that line. Or the Jag dealer does.

I’d like to know how long one “dat” is.

Nah, six days is not even remotely a long time. My motorcycle has been in the shop for two months waiting for parts.

The DAT (or data access time) is the amount of time it takes one electron to travel 1.60947991 × 10 10 miles

One day I ordered (I think it was) a crank pulley bolt and a seal for my Subaru and I was told it will be something like 80.50 on the phone. I needed bad so I went to pick it up. It was 8.50 and I was super surprised. The guy thought I felt like the price was high and offered his employee discount. I laughed as I’m used to German cars and I told the parts guy not to worry about it (while I was still holding back the laughter). That’s how I fell in love with working on subarus.

“The part’s on nation-wide backorder. I’m not going to be able to get it in until... at least six days.”

This was the norm when I left the ford dealer. And disturbingly increasing.

It’s still better than “Well the factory workers are about to go on six week vacation, and then after that they’re planning to go on strike for a month, and then after that there’s a local holiday that means they’ll be very drunk for a week or so, and then you know it’s getting close to christmas...”

Had to wait six months for floormats before. SIX MONTHS. FOR FLOOR MATS.
